Dear Friends/Family,

I have registered for the 2014 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to celebrate my mother, Ruth McDermott, who is a breast cancer survivor. As you may know, she not only survived once, but twice. She was diagnosed the first time approximately twenty years ago with Stage 1 breast cancer and survived. I was really young though, so unfortunately I don't personally remember too much.

Several years passed with no other complications but at the end of last year, she was rediagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer on her other side. The second time was particularly hard because not only was she dealing with her breast cancer, but she was also taking care of my grandmother, who unforunately ended up passing away shortly after. For those that know my mother though, she will always put others before herself, no matter what her personal situation is. Even before my grandmother passed away, she decided to push back her surgery, which thankfully turned out to not be an issue. She did not show any fear or stress in regards to the breast cancer, but I can't even imagine what was going through her head with this being her second time diagnosed. Neverthless though, she survived the breast cancer once again. Ruth McDermott is the strongest woman that I know.

Next year, I have decided to fly up from Austin, Texas to pay a surprise visit to my mom and I will be joining my family in the Columbus Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts. My mother does not know about this fundraiser nor about my planned visit and I would like to keep it that way.

You can donate online with your credit card by clicking the button above my fundraising thermometer.

Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. 75 percent of the money raised through the Race stays in the community to fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent supports groundbreaking breast cancer research.

Together, we are fueling the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. And we will not stop until this disease is gone forever. That’s our promise. Will you please join my family and I in this fight by making a donation today?
