On March 14, 2016 I heard the words that no one wants to hear “you have cancer”. Just after a month later, after receiving my second opinion, my diagnosis of Invasive Ducal Carcinoma (Hormone Positive / HER2 Negative) was found to be Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer, the breast cancer that kills over 40,000 women and men in the United States every year. According to American Cancer Society, only about 22% of patients with Metastatic Breast Cancer will be alive 5 years after diagnosis; this is unacceptable.
I will most likely live with Metastatic Breast Cancer with for the rest of my life. At the current time, there is no known cure for Metastatic Breast Cancer. Still, I make a choice to currently live the best to my ability. Cancer is a real part of my world every day, but it is not me, and it will never be the only thing that defines me.
This year, I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure because I wanted to take action and be More Than Pink™. I want to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer and need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.
Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. 75 percent of the money raised through the Race stays in the community to fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent supports groundbreaking breast cancer research.
Together, we are fueling the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. And we will not stop until this disease is gone forever. That's our promise. Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
