Race for mom

This year, I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure because I wanted to take action and Race for Raye and others whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer.

I never thought I would get the text. "We need to talk, you aren't going to like it, but we'll get through it." She was scaring me. If you know Raye, my mom, you know how easily she talks about almost anything to literally anyone. (I got that characteristic from her, thanks Mom.) Why couldn't she just tell me over text, or pick up the phone? I was confused and scared. I sat on the couch holding Sydney, my sister's hand with each of our significant others, by our sides. Brad, my dad was silent. Then, she began to tell us a story about a lump that would change our lives forever.

My mom is an educator

My mom is a Christian

My mom is a first generation student

My mom is compassionate

My mom is a wife

My mom is an extrovert

My mom is an OU Bobcat

My mom is the best mom, obviously

My mom has faith

My mom will be a grandmother someday

My mom is a leader

and

My mom has breast cancer.

Those five words. It's still a loop in my mind repeating over and over again as I try to process. Tonight, if my family crosses your mind, say a prayer for not only my mom, but all the lives impacted by breast cancer because we're in this together. If you don't pray, we will accept positive vibes and thoughts with open arms.

I want to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer and need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my mom and our fundraising efforts.

Together, we are fueling the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. And we will not stop until this disease is gone forever. That's our promise. Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today? We would love to have you be with our family on race day as part of our team too!

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
