This year, I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure because I want to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer. Additionally, my Mother DARLENE MATTHEWS currently serves on the Komen Columbus Race for the Cure leadership board and in 2013 she was named the Honorary Chair of the Komen Columbus Race for the Cure and I want to support her in her in her leadership role!
My Mom is an 16 year Breast Cancer Survivor and her journey has been her testimony. She has gone from not wanting to acknowledge her fight and a team of just 5 people in 2002 to now the largest African American Team in the Columbus Race for the Cure. My Mom owns her own Beauty Salon thus her team name of Beauty All Over.
My Mom is a dynamic leader, with a mission to educate the African American community within Columbus on breast cancer, screenings and early detection. Mom also has a message that the diagnosis of Breast Cancer does not have to be scary and is no longer considered deadly!
Team Beauty All Over consists of 250+ members annually; the team starts forming in January of each year. Mom is diligent in getting people signed up and even accepts “payment plans” for Race for the Cure participation. Mom works hard to ensure that Team Beauty All Over is well represented in the Annual Komen Columbus Race for the Cure that occurs the 3rd Saturday of May each year. Team Beauty All Over has an annual goal to raise at least $10,000 to assist in the fight to find a cure to Breast Cancer and this year I personally want to raise $2000 in honor of my Mom's 15 year fight!
You will notice from the photos that Team Beauty All Over differentiates themselves during the Komen Race for the Cure by wearing Pink Afro wigs to signify the impact of Breast Cancer in the African American Community.
Team Beauty All Over organizes and operates out of my Mom's beauty salon “Beauty All Over” located at 2553 Cleveland Ave in Columbus, OH. The work of Team Beauty All Over does not stop with the Race for the Cure, the team works year round, providing information and resources as it relates to Breast Cancer education and training, as well as where one can receive free or discounted mammograms.
Please consider joining team Beauty All Over or at least donating $20 to help me reach my goal of $2000. I am looking for at least 100 of my friends to help me reach my $2000 goal.
Won't you join me in FIGHTING TO FIND A CURE???

Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. 75 percent of the money raised through the Race stays in the community to fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent supports groundbreaking breast cancer research.
Together, we are fueling the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. And we will not stop until this disease is gone forever. That’s our promise.
Thank you in advance for your support!
